Dear Fellow Pool Users,
I am delighted to report that plans are underway for the parking
lot adjacent to the pool, the ‘front’ parking lot. Here’s the scoop:
On April 3rd, the FUHSD Board voted to approve a recommendation
from the staff to move ahead with a parking, pedestrian and transportation plan
for Fremont High School. The plan
includes adding a student drop-off lane on Fremont Avenue, moving the bus stops
to be safer, as well as positive changes largely affecting the flow in the
front parking lot. Friends of the
Fremont Pool welcomed this plan with gratitude!
We will see the exit move to the center of the lot, providing a
means to exiting without having to drive down by the main building and
sometimes getting caught up in the school’s student drop-off or pick-up
experience. Two of the oak trees will be
removed as one small tree blocks the traffic lane and another oak tree is
dying. A realignment of handicapped
parking and restriping will also occur.
The flow lanes will be optimized and Friends of the Fremont Pools
steering committee provided input on how that would work best.
A notice has gone out from California Sports Center. It reads:

Construction to
parking lot
As part of a
continued improvement to the Fremont High School Campus, there will be ongoing
construction this summer. This will affect the parking lot on
Sunnyvale-Saratoga Road, as well as other parts of campus. Construction will
begin on Monday, June 11 and continue throughout the summer. Updates regarding
construction will be available at the pool and sent out via emails.
The parking lot
on Sunnyvale-Saratoga Road will be limited to pool and construction parking.
Participants will need to display a parking permit to be allowed to park in the
lot (available at the pool office.) Fremont High School will be hosting summer
school, so please plan ahead between 7:30 am-12:30 pm for parking lot
congestion.

And from the principal:
Dear
Fremont Community,
I wanted to
update you on some construction taking place this summer. We will be
renovating the staff lot in the front of the school and adding a small parking
lot and drop-off area on the Fremont Avenue side of school. The intent is
to have all of this work completed and ready for use by the time school starts
in August.
For most of you,
this shouldn't be an issue, but you may notice the work taking place when you
drive by the school. For those of you attending summer school here, there
will not be any drop-off in the front parking lot. This means that you
will need to arrive early to deal with congestion in the back parking lot.
You are also encouraged to try to walk or use the bus this summer when
coming to school.

Principal,
Fremont High School

Please abide by all the rules and have patience with the
construction. Please, please remember
that the impetus for this change was largely driven from our requests. I ask you to be absolutely supportive and to
tell any fellow swimmers, who may not know all the background, why this is so
important to pool patrons. Ask them to
be totally supportive. Thank you!
Holly
